Surviving My First Week of College
Film and TV means a lot to me, I live and breathe film and to survive my first week doing a course all about the creation and production of film and TV is amazing for me. I honestly really struggled when I moved back from Dubai last year, starting at a different college doing A-Levels and not putting myself out there and feeling like an alien, to then moving to another college doing a whole other course that I absolutely hated and then dropping out all together. I struggled with actually finding something that I could make a career in and something that I felt so passionate and excited for. It wasn't until April/May time this year where I actually found my dream course and was actually really looking forward to coming back to education. Me moving back to my home town has been such a struggle for me, meeting new people and adapting to such a different way of life and now turning over a new leaf and going into college being ready to learn and make new friends has been such a life saver.
I have enjoyed every single second coming into college and getting stuck into work learning the basics and getting ready for bigger and better projects in this whole new crazy world of film and TV. Everyone has made me feel so welcome here and now I finally have a place where I can belong. My course got introduced to our first big project which is creating Christmas adverts which is going to be very different and also interesting on how they play out.
I have already loved doing the short sequences that me and my group have created (or are still creating), getting to learn new skills but also enjoying ourselves whilst we work on them. Our first short we did was a two shot film consisting of two people in some type of heated conversation. I was given the role of director for this and made sure everyone was on board with my idea of an interrogation, which we the called 'The Art of Interrogation'. This was a lot of fun to do as I like to tell stories and bring them onto their feet and seeing this played out on the screen was very interesting to see. As well as having fun creating the film we all started to get to know each other and bounce ideas off of one another and understand each persons different interests and dislikes when it came to film-making.
We also started to create a horror film that can be no longer than two minutes. We started struggling with this as mainly only one member of the group actually likes the horror genre as the rest of us didn't, so it was much harder for us in a sense to agree on an idea that we ourselves thought could be quite terrifying for audiences. But as we got to actually filming it our ideas and the plot started changing and expanding as we went on, we still have much yet to do with our horror though. We all still have a lot of room for knowledge within the world of horror.
Although I was very nervous on starting a new course with new people, I have enjoyed every moment of it and can conclude that I did definitely survive my first week of college and also will be able to survive the next two years of it. I will be looking forward to this new exciting journey and the future I am creating as Doc. Brown in Back to the Future Part III says 'Your future hasn't been written yet, no one's has. Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one'.
