Music Video Theory (Styles, Codes and Conventions) Before we started our music video project, we first needed to understand how music videos are created and how they market an artist or group of a particular genre. In lesson, our tutor Danniella showed us a presentation about the brief history of where music videos originate from and how they have evolved throughout the years, as well as the different elements (styles, codes and conventions) that are included within different music videos, usually link to genre or lyrics of a song. Brief History of Music Videos: 1920s - Short films created by Jazz musicians, such as Bessie Smith, were made to accompany their music. 1965 - One of the first modern music videos, or promotional film clips, that was created and released is Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues".
